1st Caucasian Workshop on Concepts in Animal Welfare was held on 5 October, 2006 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Workshop was organized by Word Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA, UK), Georgian State Agrarian University (GSAU) and Georgian National Association for Animal Production (GNAAP). The collaboration between GNAAP and WSPA was started in January 2006 on the base of creation Animal Welfare (AW) Panel in AgroWeb Network.

Participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia attended the AW Workshop. The main goals of Workshop were to introduce people/students/lectures who are involved in agriculture to concepts of AW and consider the following subjects:

• AW during the transport and slaughter;
• The role of veterinarians in animal protection work;
• Animal Welfare issues in curriculum;
• Physiological indicators of AW;
• Relations between Animal behavior and AW;
• Evaluation of AW and challenges;
• Creation and further development AW panel in AgroWeb network;
• State of Animal Welfare in Caucasian countries.
